"It's always impossible until it's done"

- Nelson Mandela

Our pursuit

Holistic development in rural areas is strongly linked to the economic development and the creation of new jobs. That is why we support the entrepreneurial potential of local micro-entrepreneurs.

Closing the gap

We find it unacceptable (and unnecessary!) that millions of Subsaharan African still lack access to basic services such as safe drinking water - a fundamental human right. It's estimated that between 30%-60% of water points in Africa fail. Our gap analysis shows this is mostly due to a lack of maintenance.

One single upfront payment will give 300 families permanent access to basic services, sustainable products and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The model

As SolarFountain operates in poor communities, a single upfront payment is required from donors or partners to kickstart operations.

This single payment covers CAPEX, O&M costs for one year plus depreciation and a small proportion for project management. All other costs will be covered by internal revenues. With a minimum lifespan of 10 years for the Community Hub this is less than 30€ per family per year.

SolarFountain with its local operators and partners ensures long-term sustainability through efficient operations, proper maintenance and internal trainings within a social franchise framework.
