We find it unacceptable (and unnecessary!) that millions of Subsaharan African still lack access to basic services such as safe drinking water - a fundamental human right. It's estimated that between 30%-60% of water points in Africa fail. Our gap analysis shows this is mostly due to a lack of maintenance.
As SolarFountain operates in poor communities, a single upfront payment is required from donors or partners to kickstart operations.
This single payment covers CAPEX, O&M costs for one year plus depreciation and a small proportion for project management. All other costs will be covered by internal revenues. With a minimum lifespan of 10 years for the Community Hub this is less than 30€ per family per year.
SolarFountain with its local operators and partners ensures long-term sustainability through efficient operations, proper maintenance and internal trainings within a social franchise framework.
